The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) announced at the PromCon conference that Prometheus is the second project to "graduate", following Kubernetes. To move from the maturity level of incubation to graduation, projects must demonstrate thriving adoption, a documented, structured governance process, and a strong commitment to community sustainability and inclusivity.

Prometheus was developed by Soundcloud and released under an open source license. According to the CNCF, Prometheus is also being used by Digital Ocean, Ericsson, CoreOS, Weaveworks, Red Hat and Google. As part of the CloudNativeCon, which takes place in November, there will also be a Prometheus Day dedicated to the monitoring package.
