Cloud company Mirantis, who is now the steward of the Kubernetes Lens GUI, have announced the availability of an extension API in version 4.0 of the software. That opens up the Lens ecosystem to third-party developers who can extend the tool with their own functions. On the Lens homepage interested parties can also register as an official partner.

The extension API is based on the Javascript framework React.js as is the Lens tool itself. The extensions API makes it possible to add new tabs and screens to the Lens GUI and to work with Kubernetes custom resources, to enable things like the integration of custom CI/CD workflows, databases or internal corporate applications.

Lens 4.0 is now available as a release candidate on the Github releases page of the project.
