Intel has released a new version of its Clear Linux distribution. While Clear Linux was initially branded as a distribution for cloud computing the current message is now that it is a distribution targeted at Linux developers. Still Clear Linux includes special machinery for working with containers. While it shipped its own contraption called Clear Containers it has meanwhile switched to Kata Containers which are a combination of lightweight virtual machine and container technology.

Intel now brands Clear Linux as "A Linux* OS for Linux Developers". Clear Linux has its own package manager called swupd and is working as a "stateless" OS that makes it easy to employ different system configurations.

Clear Linux offers different development packages such as "c-basic" for C developers or "container-basic" for container applications. Naturally the open source distribution is heavily optimized for Intel processors.
