HTTP/3 will be QUIC

According to Daniel Stenberg, the author of the commandline tool curl, the next version of HTTP will be based on the QUIC protocol. Originally, QUIC had been developed as a UDP-based alternative to TCP by Google. Based on this, the IETF experts are working on a different protocol under this name (informally also called "iQUIC"), while the Google invention now operates under the acronym gQUIC.

The specific payload of HTTP over QUIC should be referred to in the future as HTTP/3, in order to avoid misunderstandings. Earlier this month developers of the Litespeed web server and Facebook have conducted a successful HTTP/3 interoperability test.
