CrateDB goes full open source

Starting with Version 4.5 CrateDB will be licensed under Apache 2.0. Up until now CrateDB was distributed with an open-core model that restricted to the open source version to a limited set of functionality. This was a mistake, says co-founder Christian Lutz in blog post that comments on the license change. In the future there will be a single codebase for open source users as well as enterprise customers.

CrateDB is a distributed SQL database built on top of a NoSQL foundation with a primary use of storing "machine data" that can be IoT applications, logging or other machine generated data. Given the nature of the stored data CrateDB is eventually consistent and allows for easy horizontal scaling and high availability. CrateDB’s distributed SQL query engine enables distributed SQL queries, aggregations, and search.
